Drummey Talks B2B at CSULB Journalism Day

October 22, 2009

Vice president/group publisher Cyndy Drummey, who handles editorial training for BBM, participated in a panel discussion about media careers at California State University Long Beach’s Journalism Day in October 21, 2009. Among the other panelists were Beverly White, television reporter for Channel 4 news, Chris Erskine, a columnist with the LA Times, and Dennis Foley of the Orange County Register. Most of the students attending were journalism or communications majors and hoped to pursue a media career, and the session was broadcast on the university’s radio station.

The students’ questions to the panel ranged from how to develop their e-media skills, ethics in journalism, and how to prepare a proper resume. To one student who asked why the LATimes didn’t cover more extreme sports, the Times editor said it was a matter of space available, but Drummey piped in that magazines offer the kind of topical range that newspapers can’t. “Business publications offer a career that combines both your loves – journalism and the topic you cover.”
