Chicago Mayor Richard Daly Keynotes Green Fleet Conference

October 21, 2009

Chicago’s mayor Richard Daley spoke at the Green Fleet Conference, which is put on by Automotive Fleet magazine. His message was “Implementing Chicago’s Climate Action Plan to Reduce Transportation’s Carbon Footprint,” and he focused on how Chicago planned to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by 80% by the year 2050.

We also welcomed David Haft of Frito-Lay North America, who spoke on “remaking business” in the age of sustainability. Haft’s keynote addressed how Frito-Lay had reduced CO2 emissions by 96 million pounds. The company’s goal is to decrease greenhouse gas emissions for every bag of chips it produces.

Continuing the theme, Mayor Michael Coleman of Columbus, Ohio, singled out the importance of recognizing and honoring innovative environmental leadership. His city committed to a 2% reduction of greenhouse gas emissions per year with a total reduction of 40% by 2030.
