Bobit Business Media was founded in 1961 with the launching of Automotive Fleet in Glenview, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago. For over 50 years, the company has grown to publishing over 20 various trade publications covering 5 different markets.

Bobit Business Media was founded in 1961 with the launching of Automotive Fleet in Glenview, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago. “I still have the credenza I bought for $12 that we used to lay out the first issue of Automotive Fleet Magazine,” reminisces Ed Bobit, founder.
By 1964, Bobit Business Media acquired two more publications, Metro and School Bus Fleet, to strengthen its position in the transportation market. “We had this vision to provide valuable, and useable, information to key underserved market areas in transportation,” states Ty Bobit, President & CEO.
Seeking warmer weather, the company moved to Southern California in 1977 and established an office in Redondo Beach. “We had lived most of our lives in the Chicago-area and really just wanted to experience winters without shoveling snow!” says Ed Bobit. The company became one of the stronger B-to-B media forces in the West and used its position to acquire several new titles in fields like beauty, security and law enforcement, as well as transportation.
In the mid-‘80s Bobit Business Media developed conferences and expositions, starting with the Limousine & Chauffeur Show and Mobile Electronics Show, to bring industries together face-to-face. Meanwhile it added additional titles through both acquisition and organic start-up.
The company jumped into digital media with both feet in 1996 by setting up industry websites for all of its brands. Using advanced SEO techniques and employing an in-house Web team, Bobit Business Media websites are leaders in their markets.
“We’re continually diversifying the way we deliver information. We’ve got our magazines but have also added trade shows and digital to our communications mix,” says Ty Bobit. The company currently produces 21 print titles, 42 websites, 24 e-newsletters, and 13 in-person events that meet specific markets’ need for knowledge, news and networking.
Today, Bobit Business Media employs more than 135 talented associates in the areas of editorial, audience marketing, ad sales, production, digital media, events, research, and accounting. Its headquarters occupies 50,000 square feet in Torrance, California, and it has 15 regional offices throughout the United States.
