Mission Statement - Values - History
Bobit Business Media’s mission is to be a leading business-to-business media company that anticipates and meets customer needs with superior quality publications. We provide ancillary products and services, enabling our customers to attain maximum benefit from our industry knowledge.
Due to the creative nature of our business, we recognize that our associates are our primary asset, and we desire to provide them with a positive, rewarding work environment that encourages teamwork, professionalism and excellence while stimulating personal growth and fulfillment.
To best define our culture, we adhere to seven basic values:
Customer Satisfaction — In our company, the customer is king. We will provide outstanding customer satisfaction to advertisers, readers and internal customers. We will be known as the company that delivers “service with a smile.”
Superior Level of Quality — We are only as good as the products and services that we provide. We are committed to superior quality, innovation and value. We believe that superiority derives from strict attention to details. Accuracy is a must. Also important is in-depth knowledge of our respective industries.
Individualism — We believe in the dignity and worth of the individual. Every job is important and every associate is important. We encourage independent thinking and interests with the good of the whole in mind. We will treat fellow associates with fairness and respect.
Teamwork — All of us together are stronger and wiser than any one of us individually. To succeed, we must assume responsibility, cooperate with fellow associates and with departments, effectively communicate with one another, foster enthusiasm and participate in decision-making.
Productivity and Performance — Our business must earn an attractive return on investment which, in turn, ensures our corporate future and permits us to reinvest in growth. The key to corporate performance is achieving steady improvement in the productivity of our work. We will strive for better efficiencies, cost containment and up-to-date equipment technologies.
Corporate Character — Great corporations, like great individuals, always act with integrity and character. We are committed to integrity and high ethical standards in all of our relationships. When faced with moral choices, we will do the right thing.
Citizenship — We will serve the community of mankind with educational tools that will influence decisions and thereby contribute to global prosperity and harmony. We will be good citizens in every community in which we have a presence.
Bobit Business Media was founded in 1961 with the launching of Automotive Fleet in Glenview, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago. “I still have the credenza I bought for $12 that we used to lay out the first issue of Automotive Fleet Magazine,” reminisces Ed Bobit, founder.
By 1964, Bobit Business Media acquired two more publications, Metro and School Bus Fleet, to strengthen its position in the transportation market. “We had this vision to provide valuable, and useable, information to key underserved market areas in transportation,” states Ty Bobit, President & CEO.
Seeking warmer weather, the company moved to Southern California in 1977 and established an office in Redondo Beach. “We had lived most of our lives in the Chicago-area and really just wanted to experience winters without shoveling snow!” says Ed Bobit. The company became one of the stronger B-to-B media forces in the West and used its position to acquire several new titles in fields like beauty, security and law enforcement, as well as transportation.
In the mid-‘80s Bobit Business Media developed conferences and expositions, starting with the Limousine & Chauffeur Show and Mobile Electronics Show, to bring industries together face-to-face. Meanwhile it added additional titles through both acquisition and organic start-up.
The company jumped into digital media with both feet in 1996 by setting up industry websites for all of its brands. Using advanced SEO techniques and employing an in-house Web team, Bobit Business Media websites are leaders in their markets.
“We’re continually diversifying the way we deliver information. We’ve got our magazines but have also added trade shows and digital to our communications mix,” says Ty Bobit. The company currently produces 17 print titles, 42 websites, 24 e-newsletters, and 16 in-person events that meet specific markets’ need for knowledge, news and networking.
Today, Bobit Business Media employs more than 170 talented associates in the areas of editorial, audience marketing, ad sales, production, digital media, events, research, and accounting. Its headquarters occupies 50,000 square feet in Torrance, California, and it has 22 regional offices throughout the United States.
